Job summary

Moderna is seeking a Robotics Engineer to design, assemble, test, and refine laboratory instruments and automation-enabled research systems. You will support electrical, mechanical, and mechatronic design, integrate controls, sensors, and software, and help translate research needs into reliable hardware solutions.

You will mentor junior teammates, document designs, and drive improvements that enhance reliability, usability, and data quality in a fast-paced research environment at Moderna's site.

Qualifications

• B.S. or higher with 2+ years or more of relevant experience.
• Hands‑on experience building, testing, troubleshooting, improving, or maintaining electromechanical systems.
• Working knowledge of sensors, actuators, motors, wiring, controls, CAD, or fabrication methods.
• Ability to use data and engineering judgment to solve problems.
• Strong documentation habits for design notes and test records.
• Ability to explain complex technical information clearly and collaborate with researchers and engineers.
• Site-based position; not eligible for remote work.

Responsibilities

• Independently support design, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and improvement of lab instruments and automation-enabled systems.
• Assist with mechanical, electrical, and mechatronic design work and component selection.
• Participate in system integration, testing, and workflow development.
• Develop and execute experimental test plans; analyze results and recommend next steps.
• Provide technical support and guidance to researchers and project teams.
• Create and maintain design notes, build records, test data, and operating guidance.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote good engineering practices.
