Job summary

Moderna is seeking a Senior Robotics Engineer to drive robotics and automation for Research. You will lead design, integration, and validation of robotic systems, electronic controls, and orchestration software, while guiding cross-functional teams and solving complex problems.

The role emphasizes expert technical leadership, platform architecture, and collaboration with Research, Digital, and Engineering to enable scalable workflows and reproducible results.

Qualifications

• BS or higher with 2+ years in robotics, automation, systems or related disciplines.
• Experience designing, integrating, and validating robotic systems and automation software.
• Strong programming skills in Python, C# for automation and instrument control.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical leadership for robotics and automation projects supporting research discovery and high-throughput workflows.
• Contribute to system architecture across robotics, motion control, instrument control, scheduling, data flow, safety, and orchestration layers.
• Translate scientific needs into system specs, requirements, integration plans, risk assessments, and verification strategies.
• Design and develop automation software, electronic controls, and workflows that integrate robotics, instruments, sensors, and data systems.
• Lead or co-lead integration of robotic platforms and automation modules into extensible platform architectures.
• Identify and manage technical risks, dependencies, and complexity while improving throughput and reliability.
• Serve as a technical expert for robotics, automation, controls, and systems integration within Research teams.
• Partner with stakeholders to align platform capabilities with experimental goals and data needs.
