Job summary

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. is seeking a Robotics Engineer to maintain and improve robotic machine-tending cells supporting CNC machining. You will troubleshoot robot programs, CNC handshakes, PLC interfaces, HMIs, and safety systems to restore downtime quickly and safely.

You will also support development work like robot programming changes, tooling improvements, new-part introductions, and equipment upgrades, while training technicians and ensuring safe operations on the shop floor.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in robotics or related field preferred; associate degree or hands-on experience considered.
Hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, programming, and recovering industrial robots in production.
Ability to troubleshoot robot-to-CNC and robot-to-PLC interfaces, I/O, safety systems, sensors, and end-of-arm tooling.
Knowledge of CNC machining, machine-tools, workholding, part presentation, and tooling considerations.
Ability to read robot programs, electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
Experience using root-cause analysis and downtime data to eliminate failures.
Capable of on-floor support, urgent downtime priorities, and cross-functional communication.

Responsibilities

Provide hands-on daily support for robotic CNC machine-tending cells and downtime recovery.
Troubleshoot robot programs, CNC handshakes, PLC logic interfaces, HMIs, networks, and safety systems.
Diagnose failures via alarms, logs, and root-cause analysis; implement corrective actions.
Develop preventive and predictive maintenance for robots, safety equipment, dress packs, and sensors.
Maintain robot programs, data backups, and documentation.
Create standard work for startup, shutdown, fault recovery, and changeovers.
Train technicians and operators on failure modes and recovery procedures.
Track downtime, identify chronic losses, and drive improvements for uptime and quality.
Support development projects: robot programming, testing, and installations.
Ensure compliance with machinery, electrical, lockout/tagout, and safety standards.
