Job summary

Sturm, Ruger & Co. seeks a hands-on Controls Engineer to support production controls, automation systems, robotics, and CNC machine-tending applications.

You will troubleshoot equipment issues, support startups and commissioning, maintain controls documentation, and collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering to improve uptime and safety. Responsibilities include modifying PLC logic and robot programs, working with vendors and integrators, and guiding maintenance staff on controls

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent controls/manufacturing experience.
• 5+ years in industrial controls, machine automation, or manufacturing equipment reliability.
• Working knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, servo systems, machine controls, electrical schematics, and controls documentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical support for production controls, automation systems, robotics, cobots, CNC machine-tending equipment, and related manufacturing systems.
• Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, servo, robot, cobot, network, and machine-control issues to reduce downtime.
• Support equipment startups, commissioning, production ramp-up, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
• Modify and maintain PLC logic, HMI screens, robot/cobot programs, electrical schematics, and system manuals.
• Collaborate with suppliers, integrators, and engineering teams to resolve controls issues and implement improvements.
• Assist with selection, replacement, and standardization of controls hardware, sensors, drives, and components.
• Provide training on controls systems, troubleshooting, and safe operation to maintenance and production teams.
• Support safety, uptime, and compliance initiatives.
