Job description

Location: Duluth, MN / Superior, WI | Schedule: Full-time, on-site; flexible 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift options | Compensation: Up to $35.00/hr + shift differentials and profit sharing

Overview

A global manufacturing leader in heavy equipment attachments for the construction, demolition, and scrap recycling industries is seeking a Robotic Automation & Weld Programmer for its state-of-the-art robotics plant floor. This direct-hire role moves beyond manual welding and pendant-based fixes into true offline programming, optimizing multi-axis robotic cells and proving out first-article weldments for large-scale industrial fabrications. The company is known for a people-first culture, a stable order backlog, and strong internal promotion opportunities.

What you'll do
  • Develop, simulate, and proof collision-free offline programs using Robotmaster or MotoSim for complex, multi-pass first-article structural weldments
  • Fine-tune robotic travel speeds, torch angles, wire feed rates, weave patterns, and arc voltages to maximize cycle efficiency and achieve full-penetration welds
  • Serve as the primary floor subject matter expert resolving multi-axis robot motion faults, seam-tracking/touch-sensing errors, and hardware communication issues
  • Inspect finished weldments using visual and non-destructive methods to ensure compliance with engineering blueprints, AWS structural codes, and tight tolerances
  • Train and mentor production operators on fixture loading sequences, standardized setup procedures, and basic pendant operation
  • Oversee routine maintenance of robotic arms, torch liners, contact tips, wire feeder drives, and anti-spatter reamer stations
Required qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience setting up, operating, and programming robotic weld cells (Yaskawa/Motoman YRC1000 experience strongly valued)
  • Practical proficiency with offline simulation packages such as Robotmaster, MotoSim, or equivalent CAD-to-path software
  • Strong foundation in heavy-plate MIG welding and blueprint reading, including complete weld symbol literacy; must be able to pass an on-site practical weld test
  • Ability to review part geometry, evaluate fixture clearance, and establish efficient weld sequences from scratch
  • Consistent work history demonstrating multi-year tenure, strong daily attendance, and team accountability
  • Permanent residency within comfortable commuting distance of the Duluth, MN / Superior, WI area; requires US work authorization as a US Citizen or Green Card holder
Preferred qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Robotics, Automated Manufacturing, or Welding Technology
  • CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) credential or formal AWS robotic arc welding certifications
  • Hands-on experience calibrating laser vision sensors, arc-seam tracking, or touch-sensing systems for heavy weldments
Compensation and benefits
  • Up to $35.00/hr starting baseline rate, commensurate with offline programming depth
  • Up to an additional $2.00/hr in shift premiums
  • Company-wide profit sharing
  • Full benefits package
  • Choice of 1st shift (flexible start at 6:00 AM, 7:00 AM, or 8:00 AM), 2nd shift, or 3rd shift
Why this role

This direct-hire position offers true ground-up offline programming work, long-term stability, internal promotion tracks, and an unyielding global order backlog, all within a people-first culture investing heavily in state-of-the-art robotics.
