Job summary

H&H is seeking a Roadway/Transportation Designer to join our Highway Group in Boston, MA. You will assist with the design and development of highway projects, producing traffic control plans and signing/striping layouts while growing technical skills.

The ideal candidate holds a BSCE with up to 5 years of civil experience, and prefers EIT certification. Proficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD, InRoads, AutoTurn, and GuideSign is valued within a collaborative, growth-oriented firm.

Qualifications

• BSCE required; EIT preferred.
• 0–5 years civil engineering experience.
• EIT certification preferred.
• Experience with Bentley CONNECT Suite and AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and team-oriented.
• Strong communication and math skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing conceptual and final highway, roadway, interchange, and drainage plans.
• Develop traffic control, staging, signing, and striping plans.
• Perform geometric design and plan development using CAD/Bentley software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, InRoads, AutoTurn, GuideSign).
• Assist in ADA-compliant sidewalk, shared-use paths, and curb ramp design.

The successful candidate will work alongside experienced professionals and assist with roadway and transportation design.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and development of conceptual alternatives and final design plans for highway, roadway, interchange, and drainage projects.
• Assist in the design and production of traffic control and staging plans, as well as traffic, signing, and striping plans.
• Perform geometric design and plan development using computer-aided design software, including MicroStation, AutoCAD, InRoads, AutoTurn, and GuideSign.
• Assist in the design of ADA-compliant facilities, including sidewalks, shared-use paths, and intersection curb ramps.

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
• Zero to five years of civil engineering experience.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification and prior internship experience preferred.
• Experience with Bentley CONNECT Suite and AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and comfortable working in a team environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong mathematical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
