Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a roadside maintenance worker to operate and maintain a range of medium motorized equipment for roadway projects. The role involves residential driveway work, drainage maintenance, and traffic control to safeguard crews and the traveling public.

Responsibilities include backhoe assistance, use of power tools, and potential after-hours emergency response. A valid driver's license is required, with CDL training to be completed within six months.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains medium motorized equipment used in roadway maintenance.
• Performs maintenance work including driveways, drainage, signs, debris, and related tasks.
• Assists in backhoe operations for drainage and material moving.
• Performs traffic control for work zones including lane closures and detours.
• Safely operates electric/gas powered tools and assists in emergencies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
