Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a maintenance worker to support the construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system. Under direct supervision, you will perform a wide variety of manual tasks and operate standard equipment used in highway maintenance.

The role requires the ability to operate dump trucks and other machinery, perform vegetation management, and flag traffic to protect workers and the public.

Qualifications

• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months.
• There are no additional minimum training or experience requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintenance of roads and bridges on the state highway system.
• Operate dump and flatbed trucks for hauling materials and equipment.
• Perform vegetation management and sign maintenance tasks.
• Flag traffic to protect workers and public during repairs.
• Inspect equipment prior to use and assist in emergency operations.
• Lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather.
