Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a maintenance worker to support the construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system. Under direct supervision, you will operate heavy equipment and perform manual tasks on a County Maintenance Work Request/Patching Crew.

This role requires a valid driver's license and must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification.
• Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months.
• Physical demands include bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, and outdoor work in all weather.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintenance of roads and bridges on the state highway system.
• Operate dump trucks, flatbed trucks, and other heavy equipment for hauling materials and performing maintenance tasks.
• Patch potholes, perform base repairs, paving driveways, and maintain drainage systems.
• Flag traffic to protect workers, the public, and equipment during repairs.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections and support on-call or extended hour operations as needed.
