Job summary

The New Mexico Department of Transportation is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker to operate medium to heavy equipment and perform a range of highway maintenance tasks across state routes. A valid driver's license and a Class B CDL within one year are required, with endorsements possible for herbicide, tanker, and hazmat.

Work is conducted in outdoor field conditions with potential statewide travel, call-outs, and safety-sensitive duties.

Qualifications

• Six months of experience maintaining roads and operating medium to heavy equipment.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and within one year obtain a Class B CDL (or equivalent).
• Endorsements such as Herbicide, Tanker, and/or Hazmat may be required.

Responsibilities

• Operate medium to heavy equipment to maintain US and NM highways.
• Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties in the patrol and use hand tools.
• Support snow removal and emergency operations; remove trash and dead animals from right of way.
