Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled laborer to support road and bridge work across the state highway system. The role involves operating tandem dump trucks, flagging traffic, and assisting with maintenance using hand tools in varying weather and terrain.

The position requires at least 6 months of related experience or an approved equivalence, plus a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six months.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Operate tandem dump truck to haul material and equipment to and from job sites.
• Flag during road repairs controlling the flow of traffic to protect workers, general public, and equipment.
• Trains in the operation of standard dump trucks with attachments during emergency situations.
• Uses hand tools when performing maintenance operations.
