The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a qualified worker to perform roadway maintenance tasks, operate equipment, install concrete pipe, pave asphalt, and manage traffic safety on state roads.

Candidates must have at least 6 months of related experience or equivalence and obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs and potential extended hours during hazardous weather or emergencies.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsabilités

• Operates medium equipment such as a tandem dump truck hauling materials and supplies to and from job sites.
• Operates heavy equipment such as front-end loader in roadway surface repairs on State maintained roads.
• Performs manual labor in the installation of reinforced concrete pipe for drainage purposes; and in paving using asphalt.
• Uses hand tools such as asphalt rakes, brooms and shovels in daily maintenance operations; also uses chainsaw as necessary in inclement weather.
• Flags traffic during roadway and/or electric repairs to ensure the safety of fellow employees and the traveling public.
• Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations, may include being available for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts.
