Job summary

Commonwealth of Kentucky is seeking a Highway Technician Assistant II in Covington, KY. The role involves basic to intermediate roadway maintenance and operation of equipment including snow plow and salt spreader during winter months.

The ideal candidate has two years of highway maintenance experience, a valid Class B CDL, and must complete the KYTC Academy Level 1 within one year. Locality premium applies; full-time with OT eligibility.

Qualifications

• High school graduate required.
• Two years of construction or highway maintenance experience required.
• Associate degree in engineering technology or related field substitutes for two years of highway experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a Class B CDL.
• Must be at least 18 years old and complete KYTC Academy Level 1 within one year.

Responsibilities

• Operate dump trucks with snow plow and salt spreader.
• Operate intermediate equipment (asphalt distributors, backhoes, loaders, etc.).
• Install drainage structures and perform asphalt and earthwork tasks as needed.
• Flag for traffic control and serve as QA inspector for compliance with plans.
• Perform basic surveying activities.
