Commonwealth of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Department of Highways, in Sparta, KY, seeks a Highway Technician Assistant I to perform basic highway maintenance tasks. The role includes operating light equipment, snow removal, and assisting with surveying while ensuring safety and efficiency at road sites.

The position is full-time with overtime eligibility, offering $17.95 hourly pay and a typical 40-hour workweek.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.
• Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees must furnish documentation that they hold a valid Class B commercial driver's license.
• Within one year of employment, must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Operate a small single axle dump truck hauling materials to and from job sites.
• Operate dump trucks with snow plow and salt spreader to work in winter months.
• Operate a tractor-type mowing machine, assist in brush cutting, and use chemical sprayers.
• Learn and assist with basic surveying activities or construction projects.
• Flag for operations requiring traffic control.
• Perform minor repairs and maintenance work on equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
