Job summary

Commonwealth of Kentucky is seeking a Highway Technician I in Covington, KY. The role supports winter operations, road maintenance, and quality control across multiple heavy- equipment tasks.

The position requires a high school diploma, 4 years highway construction/maintenance experience, and a valid CDL A with tanker endorsement. Training through KYTC Academy Level 2 is required within a year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor degrees may substitute for experience.
• Minimum four years of construction or highway maintenance experience.
• Valid driver's license and Class A CDL with tanker endorsement required.
• Must complete KYTC Highway Technician Academy Level 2 within one year.

Responsibilities

• Operate dump truck with snow plow and salt spreader in winter.
• Operate intermediate equipment (asphalt distributors, backhoes, loaders, etc.).
• Roll hot mix, apply chemicals, install drainage structures.
• Learn to operate bulldozers, cranes, excavators, and other heavy equipment.
• Serve as quality assurance inspector for pipe laying, earthwork and guardrails.
• Perform flagging for traffic control.
