Job summary

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet in Covington, Kentucky, seeks a Highway Technician I to support roadway and roadside maintenance operations. You will work with dump trucks, snow plows, and a range of equipment to keep roads safe and serviceable.

The ideal candidate has 4 years of highway maintenance experience, holds a valid Class A CDL with tanker endorsement, and is ready to complete the required KYTC academy within a year. On-site, full-time position with overtime eligibility.

Qualifications

• High school graduate required.
• Four years of highway construction or maintenance experience.
• Valid driver's license and Class A CDL with tanker endorsement required.
• Must complete KYTC Highway Technician Academy Level 2 within one year.
• Must be 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Operate dump truck with snow plow and salt spreader during winter.
• Operate intermediate equipment such as asphalt distributors, backhoes, loaders and concrete mixers.
• Roll hot mix, apply chemicals, and install drainage structures.
• Learn to operate advanced equipment (bulldozers, cranes, excavators, graders) for complex tasks.
• Act as quality assurance inspector for pipe laying, concrete, earthwork, and guardrail work.
• Serve as flagger to provide traffic control.
