Job summary

Arkansas Department of Transportation seeks a Maintenance Aide I to operate a single-axle truck and mowing equipment and perform various road maintenance functions. Eligible candidates will possess basic math and computer skills and the ability to follow instructions. CDL with tanker endorsement is required within specified timeframes; pre-employment drug test applies.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and speak English to converse with the public and understand traffic signs.
• Experience operating a truck, tractor or heavy equipment preferred.
• Basic math and computer skills.
• Ability to learn and safely operate a single-axle truck, tractor and heavy equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Mow grass using large tractors and gang mowers.
• Perform landscape maintenance and tree cutting on highways and facilities.
• Operate single-axle dump trucks hauling materials.
• Use power tools and hand tools for highway repairs.
• Load, unload and stack bags of salt, sand, cement, chemicals, etc.
• Pick up litter and flag traffic in work zones.
• Set up signs and cones for work zones.
• Respond to emergencies 24/7 when needed.
• Participate in ice and snow removal operations.
