Arkansas Department of Transportation is hiring for a Maintenance Aide I to operate a single-axle truck or a tractor with mowing attachments and perform road maintenance tasks across the district. The role emphasizes safe operation of equipment and adherence to traffic control in work zones.

The position requires basic English literacy, prior experience with trucks or heavy equipment is preferred, and duties include landscaping, litter removal, and assisting with sign setups.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and speak English sufficiently to converse with the public and understand reports.
• Experience operating a truck, tractor or heavy equipment preferred.
• Ability to follow oral instructions and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Maintain control of grass and weeds by mowing using large tractors and gang mowers frequently.
• Operate single-axle dump trucks hauling highway construction or maintenance materials frequently.
• Use power equipment and hand tools to repair highways and perform landscaping tasks.
• Load, unload, and stack bags of salt, sand, cement, chemicals, etc. frequently.
• Flag traffic and assist crew in setting up signs and cones for work zones.
• Respond to emergencies 24/7 and assist during ice and snow removal operations.
