Job summary

The Arkansas Department of Transportation is hiring for a Maintenance Aide I to operate a single-axle truck or tractor with mowing apparatus and to perform a variety of road maintenance tasks. This on-site position requires a valid driver’s license, ability to work in all weather and to pass CDL-related tests within defined timelines.

Responsibilities include mowing, landscape upkeep, equipment operation, and assisting in traffic control for work zones.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and speak English to converse with the public and complete records.
• Experience operating a truck, tractor or heavy equipment preferred.
• Ability to learn local street and highway names/numbers.
• Basic math and computer skills, ability to follow oral instructions.
• Validated skill in lifting up to 50 pounds and working in varied weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate a single-axle dump truck and/or tractor with mowing equipment.
• Mow, landscape, trim and maintain highway rights-of-way and facilities.
• Load, unload and stack materials such as salt, sand and cement.
• Assist with setting up and removing signs and cones for work zones.
• Respond to emergencies and perform snow removal operations as needed.
• Perform routine maintenance on assigned equipment.
