Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a maintenance worker to support road repair programs in Myrtle Beach. You will operate a tandem dump truck to haul asphalt for pothole repairs on state roads and use a steel wheel roller to move materials like asphalt and dirt.

You will also flag traffic to protect crews and the public. Flexibility for extended hours or 12-hour shifts during hazardous weather or emergencies is required.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required; Class A CDL must be attained within six months of placement.
• Must be able to perform physical tasks and work outdoors in varying weather.

Responsibilities

• Operates tandem dump truck in hauling asphalt for pothole patching on state roads.
• Operates steel wheel roller for loading/unloading maintenance materials (asphalt, dirt, coquina, and compaction).
• Flags traffic at roadwork to ensure safety for workers and travelers.
• Performs manual maintenance tasks (clearing rights of way, ditches, shoulder repairs, pothole patching, base repairs, bridge repairs, driveway paving).
• May work extended shifts or 12-hour shifts during emergencies or inclement weather.
