Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled maintenance supervisor to oversee roadway maintenance activities and supervise a crew. You will provide technical guidance, manage equipment operation, and ensure safety, MUTCD compliance, and timely completion of projects.

This position requires strong leadership, communication with the public and officials, and the ability to plan work schedules and manage resources.

Qualifications

• Ability to direct, evaluate and train others.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications thereafter.
• Ability to obtain valid CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
• Ability to perform manual labor.
• Considerable knowledge of roadway maintenance and construction practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of inventory practices and procedures.
• Safety shoes required.
• Skilled in operating and maintaining light to heavy duty trucks and equipment.
• Skilled in the use of computers and software applications.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise roadway maintenance activities.
• Direct a crew and provide technical guidance.
• Oversee emergency operations including snow removal and accident clean-up.
• Plan maintenance programs and manage staffing, equipment, and materials.
• Ensure safety, MUTCD compliance, and proper detour/traffic control.
• Maintain program documentation, budgets, and records.
