Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support roadway upkeep, equipment operations, and preventive maintenance. This role includes essential emergency work, snow/ice removal, and traffic control in work zones.

You will operate light to heavy highway equipment, follow MUTCD guidelines, and ensure safety on site. A valid CDL with endorsements and a DOT medical card within 11 months is required along with good communication and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills both orally and in writing.
• Ability to read and follow instructions and work plans.
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months and maintain thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain light to heavy highway equipment for maintenance and construction tasks.
• Perform emergency roadway operations as an essential employee.
• Install and maintain traffic control in work zones per MUTCD and safety rules.
