Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation in Orangeburg is seeking a Supervisory Maintenance Supervisor to lead a crew of highway maintenance workers across roads and rights-of-way, ensuring safe and efficient operations.

You will oversee equipment usage (motor grader, belt loader, dump trucks, backhoe), coordinate ditching and widening projects, communicate with adjacent property owners, and train new operators while ensuring timely response to work orders.

Qualifications

• 3.5 years of related work experience; relevant education may substitute for experience.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.
• Must have a commercial driver’s license to train employees on equipment.

Responsibilities

• Supervises a crew of highway maintenance workers on roads and right of ways.
• Oversees use of equipment such as motor grader, belt loader, dump trucks, and backhoe.
• Directs ditching operations to widen shoulders and slope banks to improve site areas.
• Communicates with property owners adjacent to roadway being ditched and cleaned.
• Trains new operators on equipment and ensures maintenance and upkeep of gear.
