Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a crew foreman to supervise road maintenance crews on state highways. You will plan daily schedules, assign tasks, and ensure proper equipment usage and safety practices are followed.

Responsibilities include coordinating traffic control, inspecting work quality, and maintaining records in HMMS. A CDL is required within six months, with potential on-call shifts during adverse weather or emergencies.

Qualifications

• Three and one-half (3.5) years of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and inspects road maintenance work including patching, repairs, drainage, piping and paving.
• Plans daily work schedules and prioritizes tasks; allocates crew and equipment.
• Instructs crew in safe operation of equipment and proper construction practices.
• Coordinates traffic control devices and maintains work zones per guidelines.
• Keeps daily/weekly/monthly records of time, materials and equipment usage.
• Performs safety meetings, risk mitigation, and job hazard assessments.
• Assists in emergency or inclement weather operations and on-call coverage.
