Job summary

The State of South Carolina's Orangeburg Maintenance Unit is seeking a supervisor to lead a crew of highway maintenance workers performing road and right‑of‑way upkeep with equipment such as motor graders, belt loaders, dump trucks, and backhoes.

You will oversee ditching operations, widening shoulders, and bank sloping to improve safety, coordinate with property owners, and ensure equipment is properly maintained.

Qualifications

• Three and one-half (3.5) years of related work experience.
• Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Supervises a crew of highway maintenance workers performing maintenance activities on roads and right of ways.
• Uses equipment as needed to handle work orders and requests for cleaning out pipes and ditches; assists in ditching operations and in widening shoulders and sloping banks.
• Communicates with property owners adjacent to roadway being ditched and cleaned; ensures proper maintenance and upkeep of equipment by operators.
• Assists new operators on equipment used in operations; coordinates with Resident, Assistant Resident and Resident Maintenance Foreman in scheduling county wide ditching operations.
