Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation in the United States is seeking a highway maintenance worker to perform a mix of equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor on roadways.

You will respond to emergencies, operate light to heavy highway equipment, perform safety duties, and maintain work zones in compliance with MUTCD and safety regulations. CDL and DOT medical card must be obtained within 11 months.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Emergency Operations: Operate and maintain light, medium, and heavy-duty highway equipment for maintenance and construction tasks.
• Emergency Operations: Clear roadways of snow, ice, and debris; provide traffic control during emergencies.
• Job Safety: Apply MUTCD for detours, lane closures, and work zones; maintain safe work environments.
• Manual Labor: Participate as a crew member to complete projects using hand and power tools.
• Preventative Maintenance: Perform maintenance, repair, replacement, and pre-trip inspections.
