Job summary

Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Transportation is seeking qualified workers for roadway maintenance and emergency operations in Virginia. You will operate light, medium and heavy highway equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and support manual labor tasks to keep roadways safe and functional.

Responsibilities include responding to emergencies, treating road surfaces for snow and ice, installing and removing traffic devices per MUTCD, and maintaining accurate records.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain light, medium and heavy-duty highway equipment.
• Perform emergency roadway operations including snow/ice removal and debris cleanup.
• Install, maintain and remove traffic control devices per MUTCD.
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
• Uphold safety rules and follow OSHA/VOSHA regulations.
