Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 1 year as lead worker or 2 years as Highway Maintenance Worker III or equivalent.
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate maintenance work and district betterment projects.
• Review blueprints, schematics, and standard plans; follow regulations affecting highway maintenance.
• Communicate effectively with crews, regulators, and the public about work activities and safety.

Responsibilities

• Plan and schedule work; purchase materials; assign tasks to crew.
• Identify roadway deficiencies; estimate materials and production time.
• Review engineering plans and reference procedures and regulations affecting maintenance.
• Oversee lighting, signs, striping, and landscaping crews.
• Train, supervise, and evaluate staff; enforce safety procedures.
• Prepare reports on productivity, costs, stockpiles, and schedules.
• Operate equipment and participate in winter maintenance operations.
• Respond to emergencies; act as incident commander when needed.
• Review project scopes and design progress for maintenance issues.
