Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation in Vega (Amarillo District) seeks a Transportation Mntnce Spec VII to oversee roadway maintenance operations and lead crews and contractors in a designated service area. The role supports the Maintenance Section Supervisor, coordinates daily work and ensures safety and efficiency across projects.

Qualifications

• High School Grad or Equivalent.
• 6 years of roadway maintenance or construction experience; college education or training may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
• Valid driver’s license required; state vehicle operation responsibilities.
• Commercial Driver Certificate and Class A CDL certifications are required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in budgeting for the section.
• Oversee section and contracted crews including scheduling equipment, material, and personnel.
• Plan and implement emergency response to inclement weather, accidents, and spills affecting roadways.
• Complete reports on damaged railings and bridges.
• Ensure compliance with safety guidelines on projects.
• Handle public complaints and inspect road conditions and work progress.
• Lead transportation maintenance crews and staff; maintain records of materials and personnel.
• Respond to emergencies and coordinate daily work assignments; approve leave requests for coverage.
