Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a maintenance worker to operate loaders and trucks for road upkeep across the state. Responsibilities include loading materials, shoulder repairs, pothole patching, and vegetation management, with strict attention to safety and traffic control.

Six months of related experience and a valid driver's license are required; a Class A CDL must be obtained within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operates a front-end loader to perform maintenance tasks such as clearing of right of way and loading materials.
• Operates a tandem dump truck and flatbed truck for hauling materials such as asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials and debris.
• Performs manual labor for drainage, shoulder repairs, pothole patching, base repairs, bridge repairs, paving driveways, and laying sideline/cross line pipe.
• Performs vegetation management using powered hand tools (chainsaws, weed eaters, pole saws).
• Coordinates traffic control devices to set up a maintenance work zone and serves as flagger in work zones.
• Conducts and documents pre-trip equipment/vehicle inspections per fleet safety rules and assists in emergency/weather operations.
