Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a maintenance worker to perform a wide variety of road and bridge upkeep on the state highway system under general supervision. You will operate motorized equipment and assist with construction, repair, and vegetation management along roadways.

The role requires one year of related work experience, a valid driver's license, and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six months.

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
• Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment and motorized machinery for highway and bridge maintenance.
• Install, repair, and maintain signs and foundations and manage drainage and vegetation on rights-of-way.
• Perform safety inspections and routine maintenance on equipment; monitor fluids, tires, belts, and leakages.
