Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to maintain roadways using equipment such as backhoe, front end loader, road patcher, lowboy truck tractor and motor grader.

You will support the foreman, follow safety practices, and obtain a Class A CDL within six months. One year of related experience or equivalent is required. The job involves lifting up to 50 lbs and working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
• Must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment including backhoe, front end loader, road patcher, lowboy truck tractor and motor grader to maintain roadways.
• Support foreman, directly or indirectly, in daily safe work practices (flagging, PPE, vehicle safety, inspections).
• Operate forklift and skid steer loader for roadway maintenance.
• Assist with inclement weather operations and extended hours as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
