Job summary

DeKalb County Highway Department is seeking a Highway Maintainer to perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance on county roads and operate assigned highway equipment including a winter snow plow route.

The position requires a valid Illinois Class A CDL with air brake endorsement, pre-employment drug testing, and the ability to work overtime on dayshift 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, with overtime mandatory. New hires begin at 80% of the posted rate for the first year, increasing to 90% and 100% thereafter.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 3 years in highway maintenance or related field preferred.
• Working knowledge of highway maintenance and repair procedures and materials.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of highway maintenance equipment and vehicles.
• Perform road surface repair, patching, drainage maintenance and shoulder work.
• Plow snow and apply salt as directed to maintain highway safety.
• Assist in maintenance and repair of highway equipment.
• Perform other duties as required.
