Job summary

Jefferson County Government is seeking a Driver/Laborer I to perform semiskilled and skilled maintenance and construction work for roadways, storm drainage and other public works facilities. The position requires operating dump trucks, plowing snow, maintaining records, and performing physical labor as part of a crew.

Qualifications include a High School diploma and CDL eligibility; training toward a CDL will be provided; employment is full-time and weather-influenced.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• One year of experience operating a dump truck or other commercial vehicle.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must possess a valid Class E driver's license with no restrictions except corrective lens.
• Ability to obtain Class A or B CDL within 9 months.
• Training to obtain CDL will be provided during the initial period of employment.
• Work schedule is weather-dependent and can be long and strenuous.

Responsibilities

• Operate dump trucks for loading, hauling, and unloading materials.
• Operate dump truck with snowplow and salt spreader in winter.
• Maintain records of materials hauled, work performed, locations, and hours.
• Perform labor on maintenance projects (paving, ditching, etc.).
• Maintain and inspect equipment; report defects to supervisor.
• Operate light/medium equipment such as air compressor, chain saw, jackhammer.
• Follow safety policies and assist in training new staff.
• Place traffic control devices and act as flagger.
• Occasionally work under the County Emergency Operations Plan.
• Work at assigned location during business hours.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
