Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a maintenance crew leader to operate heavy equipment and supervise crews for drainage, paving, and utility work. You will set up traffic control, instruct crew in safety practices, and ensure timely completion of jobs across sites.

Requires two years of related experience or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and CDL within six months. Lifting up to 50 lbs and outdoor work in all weather are expected.

Qualifications

• Two years of related work experience or an approved equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Must attain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform outdoor work in varying conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate front-end loader and backhoe and install pipes and drainage structures.
• Lead a maintenance crew; supervise and train workers; enforce safety rules.
• Set up work zone traffic control and flag traffic during repairs.
• Record daily work and materials; maintain HMMS records; ensure equipment is serviced.
• Be prepared for on-call emergencies and extended hours as needed.
