The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a supervisory Highway Maintenance worker to lead a crew performing asphalt and concrete patching, roadway repair, and related tasks across county/state-maintained roads and bridges. Responsibilities include equipment operation, safety training, and daily HMMS reporting.

Ideal candidates have 3.5+ years of related experience, a valid driver’s license with Class A CDL within 6 months, and the physical ability for long periods of outdoor labor

Qualifications

• 3.5 years of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required; Class A CDL within six months of placement.
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform strenuous outdoor work in various weather conditions.

Responsabilités

• Supervises a crew of highway maintenance workers across various road upkeep tasks.
• Operates and trains staff on use of equipment (e.g., dump trucks, rollers, backhoe, loaders).
• Maintains weekly/monthly reports and data in HMMS; prepares personnel actions.
• Sets up traffic control for work zones and conducts safety and compliance checks.
• Responds to on-call emergencies after hours, including weather-related incidents.
