Job summary

Benesch in East Lansing, MI is seeking a Civil Intern (Highway/Roadway) to join our Transportation and Highway Design team for summer 2026. You will contribute to highway and roadway design, traffic analysis, and plan preparation while gaining hands-on experience with design software.

Candidates pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Civil Engineering should be excited to work in a collaborative environment, learn from senior professionals, and manage multiple assignments.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Strong interest in highway or transportation engineering.
• Familiarity with design software such as MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D (Geopak or 3D modeling a plus).
• Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
• Organizational skills to handle multiple assignments.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside Transportation and Highway Design Professionals on projects involving highway design and plan preparation.
• Assist with traffic analysis and documentation.
• Support project teams with design software learning and hands-on tasks.
