Job summary

AECOM’s Transportation team seeks a Civil Highway Engineering Designer to support projects across Pennsylvania, Delaware, and West Virginia. You’ll contribute to both regional design-build and local projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, sustainable transportation solutions.

You will mentor entry-level engineers, prepare construction plans and specifications, and use Bentley/OpenRoads, MicroStation, or AutoCAD Civil 3D to deliver design outputs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and 4 years of related experience in highway/transportation design or demonstrated equivalency.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
  • Valid US driver’s license (for site visits and client meetings).
  • Experience with Bentley OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design apps.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed and routine engineering assignments for highway/roadway projects.
  • Gather and correlate data; identify discrepancies and propose solutions.
  • Develop design criteria, alignments, superelevation, barrier/guiderail and pavement design.
  • Oversee signing, pavement markings, construction phasing and maintenance of traffic plans.
  • Coordinate with disciplines, resolve issues via reviews and client feedback.
  • Prepare specs, quantities, estimates, reports and 3D models using design tools.
  • Contribute to QA/QC and project staffing decisions; mentor entry-level engineers.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and seek process improvements.
