Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation seeks an experienced professional to manage highway construction and inspection across all project phases, ensuring quality and compliance with plans and specifications for safe, reliable travel.

You will review records, certify project documentation, coordinate with stakeholders, and lead inspection staff. Candidates should have civil engineering credentials and relevant licenses, with a focus on safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with contractors, political entities and the public.
• Knowledge of highway construction management techniques, methods, procedures and equipment.
• Knowledge of federal, state and local transportation rules, regulations and policies.
• Knowledge of road and bridge construction standards, MUTCD, environmental regulations and safety requirements.
• Possession of required certifications within 12 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Review daily records for compliance with VDOT policies and procedures.
• Coordinate with project stakeholders and participate in hiring and staffing decisions.
• Provide on-site inspection staff training and ensure adequate coverage of inspection tasks.
• Develop and manage CEI budget and staffing plans; prepare status reports.
• Ensure NOI issues are documented and project records are properly archived.
