Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a maintenance worker in Rock Hill to support the construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system. Under direct supervision, you will operate a range of equipment including dump trucks and loaders while performing manual tasks to keep roadways safe.

A valid motor vehicle license is required, with a Class A CDL to be obtained within six months of placement.

Qualifications

No minimum training requirements; CDL required upon placement.
Must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.
Ability to perform manual labor and operate heavy equipment safely.

Responsibilities

Assist in maintenance, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system.
Operate dump trucks, flatbed trucks, and other equipment as part of patching crews.
Perform vegetation management, patch potholes, and maintain drainage structures.
Flag traffic, ensure safety of workers and the public, and assist in weather-related operations.
Conduct basic pre-trip inspections and use electric/gas powered tools.
Support on-call and extended hours during emergencies or inclement weather.
