Job summary

SUMMIT DESIGN AND ENGINEERING SERVICES, INC. seeks a Project Inspector to assist in inspecting roadways and structures under supervision. You will perform calculations, collect materials tickets, and conduct roadway tests to ensure compliance with specs.

Reading plans and maintaining field records are integral parts of the role. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent, strong math skills, and the ability to work independently outdoors in variable weather.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in algebra, geometry and trigonometry; able to apply formulas.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred certifications: VDOT Concrete, QMS Roadway, NCDOT tests.

Responsibilities

• Assist in inspecting roadways and structures under supervision.
• Perform calculations and computations for inspections.
• Collect materials weigh tickets and conduct roadway tests per specs.
• Read plans and blueprints; monitor field measurements.
• Maintain daily project logs and prepare monthly estimates.
• Walk rough terrain and work up to 12 hours as required.
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds; work outdoors in varied weather.
• Communicate effectively with agencies, contractors, and the public.
