Job summary

Black Hawk County in Waterloo, IA is seeking a Roadside Vegetation Worker to assist with Integrated Roadside Vegetation Management, perform heavy manual labor, and operate equipment for road maintenance.

You will plant native vegetation, spray herbicides, mow and burn where permitted, and use GIS to document treated locations. A high school diploma or GED is required, with CDL-A, pesticide applicator, and wildfire training to be obtained as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CDL Class A license; tanker endorsement required or obtainable within 6 months.
• Iowa pesticide applicator license (1A/3OT/5/6) or ability to obtain within a year.
• S-130/S-190 wildfire training or ability to complete within one year.
• Six months or more related experience and/or training.
• Basic computer skills; ability to use email and word processing.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and manuals.
• Regularly lift up to 50 pounds; some duties require up to 75 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist in roadside vegetation tasks, control invasive weeds, brush and trees by mechanical or chemical methods.
• Plant seed to promote native vegetation and healthy re-growth.
• Assist with erosion control installations and record-keeping using GIS.
• Operate County equipment and drive tractors and trucks for maintenance tasks.
• Follow safety procedures and perform routine equipment inspections.
• Haul rock occasionally and perform other assigned duties.
