Job summary

Black Hawk County is seeking a Roadway Technician I or II to perform highway maintenance, surveying, and inspection duties. The role requires CDL Type A with Tanker Endorsement, DOT certifications, and proficiency with MS Office for reporting.

Responsibilities include operating county equipment, driving dump trucks, and conducting material tests while maintaining compliance with plans and specifications. Must live within 45 minutes of the Waterloo Longfellow shop and be able to lift up to 75

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum six months related experience and/or training.
Valid Iowa CDL Type A with Tanker Endorsement or able to obtain within six months.
Must obtain Iowa DOT Certified Technician certificates for PCC I, Aggregate Technician and HMA Sampler within one year.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel) and able to interpret construction plans.

Responsibilities

Perform heavy manual labor and operate county equipment as needed.
Drive trucks with dump bodies to transport materials and perform road maintenance.
Conduct routine surveying and construction inspection duties.
Maintain daily logs and progress reports of inspections.
Assist in snow removal, flagging, and traffic control in work zones.
