Responsibilities

• Operate a spray truck and tractor mower to manage noxious weeds and roadside vegetation on County roads.
• Mix herbicides and maintain application records.
• Read, understand and follow pesticide labels.
• Maintain herbicide inventory, equipment, and labor records for billing, payroll, and regulatory uses.
• Provide leadership in maintaining the County roadside vegetation and noxious weed control program.
• Cut brush and vegetation using heavy equipment and hand tools; burn brush and weeds; perform vegetation management with mechanical and chemical methods.
• Conduct roadside vegetation surveys.
• Explain the purpose of vegetation management practices to interested citizens.
• Maintain files, records and logs for vehicles, equipment, and inventory using a computer.
• Make spontaneous decisions regarding weed control to ensure safety.
• Picks up rubbish and cleans ditches, culverts, bridges and general cleanup.
• Act as traffic flagger; set cones, signs, barricades and other devices; may drive a pilot car.
• Perform road maintenance and snow removal when available.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Maintain positive public image and good working relationships with landowners and public officials.
• Perform incidental duties related to noxious weed control and county land management.

Find, identifies and controls roadside vegetation and noxious weeds along roads in the County. Operates a variety of hand and power tools and various vehicles and equipment to accomplish work. Position reports to Public Works ER&R Supervisor and will perform general road maintenance and winter snow and ice removal activities.

1. Operate a spray truck and tractor mower for the purpose of managing noxious weeds and roadside vegetation on County roads.
2. Mix herbicides and perform applications; maintain application records.
3. Read, understand and follow all pesticide labels.
4. Maintain all herbicide inventory, equipment, and labor records for billing, payroll, and regulatory uses.
5. Provides leadership in maintaining the County roadside vegetation and noxious weed control program.
6. Cuts brush, trees and other vegetation using heavy equipment, chain saw, machete, ax, brush hook and other hand tools; burns brush and weeds. Performs a variety of vegetation management throughout the county using both mechanical and chemical applications.
7. Conduct roadside vegetation survey.
8. Explain purpose of vegetation management practices to interested citizens.
9. Maintain files, records and logs for vehicles, equipment, and inventory utilizing a computer.
10. Make spontaneous decisions regarding weed control efforts to maintain personal, public and environmental safety.
11. Picks up rubbish, debris and dead animals; cleans ditches and culverts by using hand tools; cleans bridges; performs general clean-up work.
12. Acts as traffic flagger; places traffic cones, signs, barricades and other traffic control devices to ensure a smooth flow of traffic; may drive pilot car.
13. Perform road maintenance and snow removal when available.
14. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

- Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Work experience operating equipment, spraying chemicals, or related activities.Valid Washington State driver's license
• Valid Washington State pesticide applicator’s license or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
• Valid Public Operator Weed Control License - Washington State Department of Agriculture or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
• Valid Washington State Approved Flagger's Card or ability to obtain within 18 months of employment
• Valid First Aid Medical Card or ability to obtain within 18 months of employment
