Job summary

The City of Detroit, Department of Public Works - City Engineering Division is seeking a civil engineer to lead engineering groups for road and bridge projects, plan and manage scopes, schedules, and budgets, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local policies.

Under general supervision, you will coordinate with staff engineers, manage consultants and contractors, review plans, and present project updates to residents and at meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
• Five years of road/bridge construction engineering experience.
• Three years supervising staff engaged in such work.
• Registered professional engineer in the State of Michigan.
• Valid State of Michigan Operator License.

Responsibilities

• Oversees organization of multiple construction project files per MDOT protocols.
• Performs internal plan reviews for capital improvement projects.
• Oversees bidding and construction of capital improvement projects.
• Participates in budgeting of capital improvement projects.
• Directs staff in control of project files, permits, and related activities.
• Represents the department at conferences and meetings with other agencies.
• Interacts with the public to provide project information and updates.
• Performs strategic planning to ensure policy compliance.
