Job summary

Mahaska County is seeking a labor-intensive worker to support road maintenance and construction activities. The role involves skilled operation of single axle and tandem trucks and other equipment to maintain and construct county roadways.

The job requires performing equipment maintenance, recording service data, and following safety protocols. Candidates should be able to work with minimal supervision and handle physical tasks in various weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret maps, maintenance manuals and similar documents.
• Ability to write periodic work reports, log books, and document facts.
• Knowledge of safety precautions for operating vehicles, tools and materials.
• Experience operating assigned vehicles and equipment safely per traffic laws.

Responsibilities

• Haul and place road surfacing materials with minimal supervision.
• Perform snow removal operations, mowing, and other maintenance.
• Identify, report, and act on roadway deficiencies.
• Maintain and service machinery: oil changes, filters, greasing, tires, batteries, cleaning.
• Keep written maintenance and time records for equipment and work orders.
• Assist in road and drainage project tasks and general county yard duties.
