Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a Road Foreman to oversee safe and efficient train movements and lead the Road Trainmaster-aligned crew. This role includes managing records, testing, and compliance with Amtrak, Federal, and State requirements.

Positions are tiered by skill and experience; placement is at Amtrak’s discretion. Candidates must meet minimum qualifications and be available around the clock, including holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Certified class I train service engineer.
• Minimum of 2 years' operating experience with no CFR 49 part 240.117 violations.
• PTC Qualified.
• Become Qualified on physical characteristics of territory.
• Prior satisfactory work experience in train or passenger service.
• Must be available 24 hours per day/7 days per week, including holidays and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and manage locomotive engineers, including interviewing, selecting, onboarding, performance management, coaching, and addressing non-compliance.
• Oversee train operations and crew performance to ensure safe, efficient service delivery and improve OTP.
• Ensure regulatory and policy compliance by monitoring operating rules and labor agreements.
• Manage engineer certification, recertification, and training programs and document training activities.
• Promote and enforce safety initiatives by implementing safety plans and maintaining records.
• Administer operational reporting, stakeholder coordination, and budget management.
