Job summary

The City of Atlanta is seeking a Road Design Engineer II to support planning and design of major city projects. You will prepare construction plans, review designs, collect data, and coordinate with planners, engineers, and public stakeholders.

Under supervision, you will conduct traffic studies, develop design standards, and help implement road safety improvements, pedestrian and cycling infrastructure while pursuing professional licensure.

Qualifications

BS in Civil Engineering or related field.
At least 1 year of full‑time experience in transportation or traffic engineering.
Engineer in Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) certification is required.
Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field is preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) license within 2–3 years is preferred.
Road Safety Professional (RSP) and/or PTOE certifications are desirable.
Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

Develops construction plans for city programs and other projects.
Identifies opportunities for road safety improvements and pedestrian/cyclist infrastructure.
Plans and designs solutions for road safety and active transportation.
Supports engineering studies: traffic control evaluations, signal timing, capacity and safety analyses.
Follows city processes for quality control and plan review.
