Job summary

The City of Atlanta is seeking an early-career Road Design Engineer to support the Department of Transportation. You will work under supervision to design construction plans, perform traffic studies, and help develop standards for road safety, pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, and Vision Zero initiatives.

You will collaborate with a team of engineers and planners, engage with stakeholders, and prepare technical reports while advancing through training and career development opportunities.

Qualifications

• This position requires a BS/BA in Civil Engineering and 1 year of traffic/transportation experience.
• Knowledge of civil/roadway design standards, ADA/PROWAG and NACTO guidelines is preferred.
• Familiarity with GDOT, AASHTO and local city guidance is expected.

Responsibilities

• Develops construction plans for road projects and safety programs.
• Performs traffic studies, warrants, and capacity analyses.
• Reviews plans for quality control and design approvals.
• Produces technical reports and presentations for stakeholders.
• Collaborates with planners, engineers, and public agencies.
• Researches best practices and updates design standards.
• Responds to stakeholder inquiries and coordinates with communications.
• May assist with procurement and resource planning.
• Other duties as assigned.
