Job summary

AdventHealth South Overland Park in Kansas is seeking a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to support perioperative care across pre-, intra-, and post-operative phases, collaborating with the surgical team to provide safe, compassionate care.

The RNFA will serve as the first assistant during surgeries, prepare rooms and instruments, and assist with assessments and surgeon preference cards; requires RN, CRNFA, CNOR, BLS, and ≥2 years OR experience.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of nursing experience in an OR Unit.
• At least two years of circulating and/or scrub experience in a multi-specialty surgical setting.
• Proficiency in acute and peri-operative nursing practice.
• Experience with computerized clinical documentation.
• Strong communication, collaboration, anticipation, and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, nurses, physicians and surgeons.
• Knowledge of regulatory, compliance, and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

• Performs specialized nursing care during pre-, intra-, and post-operative phases.
• Acts as first assistant during surgical procedures within scope of training and policy.
• Assists with pre-operative and post-operative patient assessments and communicates findings.
• Prepares operating rooms with instruments and supplies per surgeon preference cards.
• Performs surgical counts and reports discrepancies.
• Maintains privacy, safety, dignity, and confidentiality for patients.
• Initiates incident reporting and supports process improvements.
• Promotes positive relationships within the department and organization.
